INFORMATION FOR GURLEY UMC CONGREGATION
With our membership voting last Saturday to disaffiliate from the United
Methodist Church there are next steps we must continue to focus on.
We have to decide with which Methodist organization we will align.
We will make
that decision on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at 5:00PM. Members will be eligible to
vote and this will be decided by majority vote. If you have not made your
decision on this issue use the time we are taking during the holiday recess to get
the information you need. I am always available to help you find the information
you need.
Our current name will change and, therefore, we have to select our new name.
The following members of the congregation are asked to bring a recommendation
to the January 8th meeting:
Trish Perry-Leader
Mary Louise Stowe
Mary Margaret Tipton
Donna Geise
Kris Poston
Deb and Haeley Specht
Sarah, Emily and Elisabeth Todd
John McDougal
Any congregation member not listed here feel free to give your ideas to Trish.
There is a very strong possibility we will not be able to continue using our current
hymnal and we may not want to because it is designed as a United Methodist
Hymnal. While we won’t know this until we get closer to the May 2023 called
Annual Conference, where we will officially become separated, some review
work needs to be done.
Seedbed Publishing has produced a new hymnal, OUR GREAT REDEEMER’S
PRAISE, which many of the separating churches seems to be going toward.
We are asking the following group to obtain a review copy of this new hymnal
(and/or others) for our use if it becomes necessary. We look forward to your
recommendation.
Julie Cyr-Leader
Kirk Durbin
Al Geise
Eunice Traylor
Paul Hall
Carolyn Terry
Diane Smith
Paul Patterson
Dorothy Procopio
Following the May 2023 Called Annual Conference we will quickly remove all
signage from our church property and all directional signs leading to our church.
The following group will inventory our signage to be changed, make plans to have
those quickly made and installed after the called conference. This group should
also determine any new signage needed as we introduce our new name following
the conference.
Kenny Perry
Mart Smith
Jimmy Parton
Al Geise
Trish Perry
Carolyn Terry
Our legal team appointed at the October 26 meeting will have a lot to do as we
make this transition.
Thanks to every member of this congregation for the support you have shown
during this time and for the Christian dignity and kindness with which you have
participated.
Continue to pray for our church and for each other.
